The 24-year old Argentine has put up a brave show while playing in Argentina’s matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iran, and has played a considerable role in pushing his team forward to the next round. Playing primarily as a defender but seizing every available opportunity to shoot a goal, Rojo was proactive and enthusiastic on the field. The disappointment on his face was evident when his attempts to shoot failed.
Rojo seems to be better suited as a midfielder, one who can alternate between attack and defence. His lanky frame coupled with the chances he takes with the ball make him better suited for this position. Argentina is in need of more defending players just as Spain sorely needs better strikers, which could perhaps be the reason coach Alejandro Sabella seems to keep Rojo at the defence.
His skills have not gone unnoticed by English Premier League clubs as well, and there were talks of Arsenal as well as Liverpool seeking to have the young Argentine playing for their teams. If he is able to work on his shot accuracy as well, Rojo might just make an even bigger name for himself not just as a defender but as an all-rounder, and work to complement Messi in his endeavours to score for Argentina.
