Mats Hummels was the man responsible to put France out of contention from the World Cup. He was excellent both in attack and defense as he scored a goal and held his fort comfortably in the back line to deny France and foiled their hopes of going through.
The winners however did not have too many shots on goals. The number was just 3 with the other two coming from substitute Andre Schurrle.
Hummels managed to head the ball past Hugo Lloris from a free-kick by midfielder Toni Kroos. The ball hit the cross bar and landed at the back of the net. Here’s the goal:
This is his second goal in this edition and he has also been one of the best performing defenders in the World Cup. He was deservedly named the Man of the match for this performance.
The Germans last won a World Cup in 1954 and exactly 60 years later, the defender gave his country another chance to go ahead and win the trophy a second time.
