Brazil succeeded in reaching the Semi-Finals by beating Colombia 2-1 in the Quarter Finals but it looks like their attempt is already over before it even started.
Their most important player Neymar Jr. has suffered a fractured vertebra as he was carried off in a stretcher courtesy to a harsh challenge by Colombian player Juan Zuniga who bumped his knee into the young Brazilian’s back.
Neymar has been the major reason for the home side’s success so far in the tournament but it now looks like their World Cup hopes are dashed as he is out of the tournament.
He had scored 4 goals and provided an assist with a pass percentage of 82.4.
Lionel Messi, the fellow South American was quick to respond to the youngster’s plight as he posted on facebook wishing him well and pleading to get back on his feet again. Messi posted,
“Neymar, ¡espero que te recuperes muy pronto, amigo! (Neymar, I hope you will recover very soon!)
Get well soon my friend, Neymar Jr.”
Another shocking incident that happened in yesterday’s match was that there were 54 fouls, 31 from Brazil and 23 from Colombia yet the Spanish referee Carlos Velasco Carballo was generous enough to not take out the red card even once during the match which clearly the fixture needed for its sheer physicality and the player’s unnecessary and dangerous antics such as the one Neymar succumbed to.
All in all, this Quarter Final performance of the referee ranks right there among the top of the worst list but the home side will look past any injustices against them while the Colombians will be cursing the Spaniard for his debacle.
