So the World Cup knockout stage as is upon as hosts Brazil face Chile with hopes to see them off into the next round. Brazil qualified with 7 points as toppers of Group A two wins and a draw while Chile came through as the runners up of Group B with comfortable victories against champions Spain and Australia. Chile has faced Brazil twice in knock out rounds of World Cups suffering a disappointment both the times, once in 1998 and then in 2010. But this time they will hope to change their fortunes by beating the Selecao and will face stiff competition.

Top players to look out for:

Neymar has been unstoppable so far having already racked up 4 goals and  tied as the top scorer along with Messi and will be crucial in front of the goal for the Brazilians. The partnership of Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas upfront has been fruitful for La Rojas and will look to press the hosts’ defence with their pace and strength. Arturo Vidal, in the midfield, will also help his country’s cause and will be expected to cause trouble for his opponents.

Teams head-to-head:

The two teams have faced 69 times with Brazil winning 48 times and Chile winning 7. 14 games have ended in draws.

Probable line-ups:

Brazil (4-2-3-1): Julio Cesar; Marcelo, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Dani Alves; Oscar, Luiz Gustavo, Fernandinho; Neymar, Fred, Hulk.

Chile (3-4-1-2):  Claudio Bravo; Gonzalo Jara, Gary Medel, Francisco Silva; Eugenio Mena, Marcelo Díaz, Charles Aránguiz, Mauricio Isla; Arturo Vidal; Eduardo Vargas, Alexis Sánchez.

Prediction: Brazil has the clear advantage in terms of history but Sampaoli’s Chile side has had a good tournament so far having beaten Spain. Brazil need to work very hard to get a victory as their present opponent is much superior to the ones they have faced so far.

Final Score Prediction: Brazil 1 – 2 Chile.
