Pre-Game Colombia vs Uruguay

Colombia had a relatively easy campaign as they topped Group C with three wins out of three matches and will now face a Uruguay side that are missing their captain and most important player, Luis Suarez as he is banned by FIFA from playing any football for 4 months hence there is a likely chance Edinson Cavani will be moved into the Suarez’ position. Jose Pekerman’s side has been unbeaten in their last 10 matches having won 6 of those. It remains to be seen what kind of a threat Uruguay side without Suarez can pose.

Players to look out for:

With the suspension of Suarez, Cavani will take the striker position which he was not given in his PSG season. He definitely has deadly instincts with the ball, whether we can witness it or not will be determined after the game. Veteran Diego Forlan will complement Cavani, he will be one to look out for as the 35 year old will be playing his last World Cup, we can only find out later if this is his last match. For the Colombians, James Rodriguez has been phenomenal having already scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists for his country. He will be supported by Juan Cuadrado, who is known for his speed and dribbling abilities.

Teams head-to-head:

The two teams have faced 38 times with Uruguay winning 18 times and Colombia winning 12. Remaining games have culminated in draws.

Probable line-ups:

Colombia (4-2-3-1): Ospina; Zuniga, Zapata, Yepes, Armero; Sánchez, Aguilar; Cuadrado, Rodríguez , Martinez; Gutierrez.

Uruguay (4-3-1-2): Muslera; Cacares, Godin, Gimenez, Pereira; Gonzalez, Rios, Rodríguez; Lodeiro; Forlan, Cavani.

Prediction:

Uruguay would have been a deadly side to play against had Suarez been in the line-up. Now the odds are stacked against them meaning Colombia have a better chance of progressing further.

Final Score Prediction: Colombia 3 – 2 Uruguay.
