Uruguay vs Costa Rica Match Preview

This will be the first Group D match of this edition of the World Cup also known as the Group of death.  Luis Suarez, one of Uruguay most dangerous stars is unlikely to start this game due to an injury which will be blow for the South American champions. They are expected to go past the group stages and need to pick up some points if they are to move ahead. They had a tough time in the qualifying but that does not mean they are a vulnerable side.  Costa Rica, on the other hand, has a very tough task ahead of them as they are drawn into a group with teams that has a rich World Cup history. They need to hold their defenses steady if they want to steal away any number of points.

Top players to look out for:

With Luis Suarez unlikely to start for the Uruguayans, the responsibility of their attack with rely on Edinson Cavani , Diego Forlan and youngster Abel Hernandez as Uruguay are known to step up their game at such critical conjectures. All in all, Oscar Tabarez’s strike force is one to look out for. Alvaro  Saborio, experienced Coata Rican forward will be put under the limelight. Bryan Ruiz, captain of the underdogs will be another prospect for his attacking skills. Christian Bolanos, the right winger will definitely test Uruguay’s lack of pace in defense.

 The two teams have a total of eight games between them with 6 wins for the Uruguayans and 2 draws with the minnows conceding nine goals in their last three.

Prediction:

Costa Rica, have lost their last four World Cup games and have conceded 14 goals in them, meaning, any positive result would be more than what they themselves would have expected. Uruguay, meanwhile, have won their past three meeting against their South American counterparts.   Uruguay are the favorites and will win the game comfortably.
