Antonio Cassano signs for Sampdoria
Antonio Cassano signs for Sampdoria. The Italian player had previously played for the club for 4 years, 2007-2011. He joined the Italian side on loan after he was unable to perform well at Real Madrid. In 2008, he signed for Sampdoria on free transfer having scored 10 goals in 22 appearances during his loan spell. He went on to score 25 goals in 74 appearances for Sampdoria in the following three seasons and was considered as an important player during that spell. “I’m happy, forza Samp forever,” said Cassano after signing for Sampdoria
He then signed for AC Milan for whom he scored 7 goals in 33 appearances before moving to their rivals Inter Milan. With Inter, he scored 8 goals in 28 appearances; his stay with both clubs which use San siro was limited to a season each.
The Italian international was without a club since January as he terminated his contract with Parma, who failed to pay his wages. He took a break from football after Parma, and has recently signed a two year deal with Sampdoria. Cassano has represented Italy in all levels beginning from the Under 15’s all the way to the senior team, scoring 10 goals in 39 appearances for the latter.
He joined Roma from Bari, for a price-tag of 30 million lira, in the year 2001, at the age of 19. His most successful run was with AS Roma, where-in he managed to beat the keeper on 39 occasions in 118 appearances. His success at Roma ignited the Real Madrid interest and the Spanish side signed him in 2006 but he could not perform well in Spain, scoring just 2 goals in 19 appearances before he was on his way back to Italy.
A club statement read: “He’s back. Back at Sampdoria, a club that means so much to him. 1,679 days on, Antonio Cassano is once again a Sampdoria player. President Massimo Ferrero and the whole club are delighted to announce that earlier this morning in Genoa the forward from Bari signed a contract until 30 June 2017. Cassano penned his deal with Sampdoria in the presence of the sporting director and the lawyer Giuseppe Bozzo.”
