Atletico de Kolkata where handed their first defeat of the season as they were beaten by 3 goals to one by travelling side Pune FC. The league leaders Atletico de Kolkata were outclassed by some superlative goals from Dudu Omagbemi and Konstantinos Katsouranis who struck either side of the break as FC Pune City carved an outstanding 3-1 away win in the Indian Super League (ISL).
Pune who were without their Marquee man, David Trezeguet was replaced by Dudu upfront as the African took charge of the attack. Kolkata who were the table toppers could have opened up a point gap of five if they had won the game against Pune. Pune with the win went third on the table and just behind Chennai on goal difference.
For Kolkata, their striker made a come back after two game ban as Fikru started up front with Luis Garcia.
Pune started the game with more vigor than Kolkata as the home side played in their away kit and Pune in their traditional Orange and Purple colours. Pune played the ball around, but the first chance fell to the home side as Fikru went close in the 11th minute. The second opening fell to Calvin Lobo who had go from 25 yards but off target.
With Pune threatening, Lobo again was the architect to the build up which he fed to Borja. But it was Pune who took the lead. Dudu scoring off a cross which came in with Kolkata down to ten men, Pune took advantage of the situation. Pune almost made it 2 in the dying seconds of the first half when some bad defending saw Dudu set free, he passed the ball to Goossens but his low drive was very well saved by Roy. Two great saves by subhashish Roy saved the blushes or else it would have been a tennis score. Also ATK had chances wasted by both Fikru and Borja.
Pune led by a goal at half time
Pune started the second half as they left, with high pressing and superior passing, and as the half progressed Pune's Greek legend Katsouranis 30 yarder goal was simply world class it went screaming into the net with goalkeeper Subhashish having no option but to pick the ball from the net.
Kolkata threatened the goal very few times, with the first real opportunity coming with Pune keeper barged into Fikru, and a 84th minute penalty was given to Kolkata which Fikru disposed it. It was tense last minutes with the score 2-1.
But Pune put the game to bed, when they got a free-kick at the edge of the box when Josemi pushed Dudu from behind as Davide Colomba converted the shot with a left footer that took a Kingshuk Debnath's deflection to hit the back of the net to sink ATK's fortunes to end 3-1 in favor of the visitors.
Kolkata's unbeaten streak was over as Pune climbed to third on the table.
