Hiraai Suns lift CSL women’s crown
Mumbai: Hiraai Suns clinched the women’s crown in the inaugural edition of the Colaba Super League (CSL), conducted under auspices of the MDFA and supported by Aadhar Pratishthan. Dishing out a consistent performance, Hiraai Suns brushed aside the challenge from Yash Warriors by romping to a convincing 2-0 victory in the grand finale, at the Back Garden’s Ground, Colaba.
The star of Hiraai’s success was Laura Estibeiro who was responsible for netting both the goals. Laura, the spearhead of the Hiraai attack, on two occasions found the back of the net after her shots hit the rival defenders and deflected into the goal, which enabled her team to become the first ever Colaba Super League Women’s Champions.
Earlier in the penultimate round, Hiraai Suns edged out Golden Tigers by a solitary 1-0 margin with Laura striking the all-important winning goal. In the second semi-final, Yash Warriors overcame Naaz United 3-2 via the penalty shootout after the match finished goalless at the end of regulation period.
The organiser of the CSL, have identified some players who participated in the women competition to form a team from Colaba, which will participate in the MDFA League and other tournaments.
Results – women’s league (final): Hiraai Suns 2 (Laura Estibeiro 2) beat Yash Warriors 0. Semi-finals: Hiraai Suns 1 (Laura Estibeiro) beat Golden Tigers 0; Yash Warriors beat Naaz United 3-2 via the tie-breaker. Full time ended goalless.
