ISL will be broadcast  in 5 languages

STAR India who are the broadcast partners for the inaugural ISL have come out with a brilliant idea of broadcasting the ISL in regional languages along with English and Hindi. The other three languages are Kannada, Malayalam and Bengali.

These three states make up for 14.4% of TV viewers in India. The idea of introducing local languages makes sense, as it reaches the grass roots of every little kid, who might be illiterate, helps him understand the game better. And appeals to masses and generates more interest in the game.

STAR India Chief Executive Uday Shankar and Chief Operating Officer Sanjay Gupta had said "the network was committed to developing a multi-sport environment in the country and providing multilingual feed for this. Last year, the network telecast Barclay’s Premier League (the football league in England) in English and Hindi for digital cable and direct-to-home subscribers".
