In what can be termed as one of the most bizarre forms of crackdowns by any league, La Liga is going to investigate ‘Drunk Ronaldo’ chants that were sung by few Barcelona supporters in order to mock Real Madrid superstar.
Barca fans sung this chant to mock Ronaldo after he was seen celebrating his birthday with teammate James Rodriguez and pop star Roldan hours after Real’s crushing derby defeat to Atletico Madrid. Rojiblancos thrashed their illustrious neighbours 4-0 in that match.
There were sanctions applied on Real fans after they were seen singing derogatory songs for Lionel Messi. LFP doesn’t want to show any bias towards La Blaugrana fans in this regard.
LFP has issued the statement that they will investigate the matter by reviewing the footage available on social media and other platforms. They will then taken against the perpetrators accordingly.
There is a strong reaction from fans across the world against LFP for maintaining such kind of censorship which can be passed off as ‘jovial banter’. LFP in its defence has stated that is a part of Spanish football’s intention of cutting out all forms of crowd trouble or incitement to crowd trouble since a Deportivo supporter was killed in a pitched battle before a match at Atletico Madrid’s Vicente Calderon stadium in November.
