Pune FC stun defending champions Bengaluru FC in their own den as they trounce them 3-1 in I-League Round Two. Karim Bencherifa’s boys have now avenged their excruciating Federation Cup defeat just over three weeks ago by this scintillating win.
Pune dominated from start to finish in all the departments as they kept Bengaluru firmly in check by their astute tactical organization. It was an attacking game where both the sides looked on to play an entertaining game.
Darko Nikac (9th min), Luciano Sabrosa (25th min) and Raju Yumnam (82nd min) found the net for Pune while Eugeneson Lyngdoh (90th min) pulled one back for the home team.
Darko Nikac is Pune’s marquee signing and he surely lived upto his tag as he took the game against the best team in the land. Sabrosa doubled Pune’s lead with a towering header as Edgar’s well drilled cross met its destination.
Pune hogged majority of possession and they made most of it by punishing Bengaluru by scoring a third via Raju in 82nd minute. Bengaluru were awarded a consolation goal which was sublime finish from Lyngdoh. Lyngdoh curled the ball past Singh in 90th minute as the game was nearing it’s conclusion. It was too late to start a comeback for the hosts.
Pune sit second on the table with this win while Bengaluru are in seventh place in the I-League standings.
