Stoke humble Tottenham 3-0
Charlie Adam, Steven N’Zonzi and Mame Biram Diouf all got their names on the score-sheet as Tottenham lost 3-0 to Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday. This loss ended Tottenham’s Champions League hopes. Vlad Chiriches picked up a red card early in the second half and the lack of passion was visible by most of the Tottenham players as they were seen simply walking on the pitch.
Charlie Adam’s header came off a very nice cross provided by Mama Diuof before. Lloris and Eric Dier ran into each other trying to clear a Charlie Adam ball but failed to do so. This allowed Steven N’Zonzi to double Stoke’s lead as the mix up ended with him getting the ball at his feet enabling him to score from an easy finish inside the box. After the start of the second half, the referee found Chiriches guilty of a second offense and sent him off in the 51st minutes. Chances for Tottenham’s comeback were all but over at this point. However Spurs became better with 10 men on the pitch and just as it seemed that they would score, N’Zonzi ended their hopes by tapping in an Arnautovic cross in the 86th minute thus sealing the game for Stoke 3-0.
Stoke have matched their points tally of the last season with 2 games to spare and Tottenham are 10 points behind 4th placed Manchester United thus ending their champions league hopes completely. In the post match interview, Tottenham’s Manager Mauricio Pochettino said that his side must improve a lot if they are to finish in the top six following their 3-0 defeat to Stoke.
