The most anticipated fixture of all internationals lived up to its billing as it was the most entertaining of the lot. An anti climax of sorts for the newly crowned world champions as they succumbed to a humiliating 4-2 defeat against the similar opposition whom they pipped for the crown only 52 days ago.
The World Champions started brightly with a young team at Dusseldorf with the brightest of chances were coming for the home side. The trio of Draxler, Gomez and Schurrle looked threatening as they kept a resolute Argentine defense on their toes. It was against the run of play, in the 20th minute a swift counter and Angel Di Maria’s brilliance coupled with Sergio Aguero’s finish gave the visitors a surprise lead. After the goal it was completely a different story altogether. The visitors grew in confidence and started stamping their authority on the game.
Angel Di Maria was again the star man for the second of four goals as he crossed in a splendid ball in for Erik Lamela who converted it via a superb volley. Durm was having a nightmare against Di Maria as the Manchester United man was getting past him at will. The British record signing was instrumental in the third and fourth goals as well. He assisted the third for Fernandez and finally finished his night on a high with scoring the fourth. It was all an Angel show in Germany to say the least.
Germany although salvaged some pride by scoring through Goetze and Schurrle. The Germans had nothing positive to take from this game apart from their midfield and Schurrle. Their horrible finishing and inability to negate the threat of Di Maria cost them their game.
