10 central defensive options cheaper than Matts Hummels

Matts Hummels who had been linked with a host of clubs this summer looks set to stay at Dortmund for a long time, as the defender just recently signed a new contract and has been named the clubs newest captain.

With a host of club including Manchester United who where behind the German for his signature, will have to resign themselves and look elsewhere for their second options after Matts. Today we here at The Football Mind look at 10 alternatives to the German.

10)Kostas Manolas:

The Greece international defender who moved to AS Roma this summer from his home country side Olympiakos is just 23 and a good option for the future.

9)Inigo Martinez:

Another 23 old makes our list, but this time is Spanish Under 21 defender and Real Sociedad center back Inigo. Inigo who has one full international cap to his name, is a disciplined defender and could come as cheap as £10m.

8)Stefan de Vrij:

The young dutch defender who made his journey from Feyenoord to Lazio this summer was linked with Van Gaal's Manchester United side. Van Gaal who gave him his first international start has went on to make his name for is astute defending and eye for goal.

7)Marquinhos:

Paris Saint German defender is one of the unluckiest players in this world, with Thiago Silva and David Luiz who was signed for £50m ahead of him in the pecking order, the day might not be far when he asks for a move away.

6)Jan Vertonghen:

A top defender and a established premier league player, Jan Vertonghen is one player capable of playing at the very top.

5)Neven Subotic:

Matts Hummels' central defensive partner who's very underrated when compared to the German, a rock in the defense. When it comes to defending he just doesn't put a leg wrong.

4)Raphael Varane:

One of the brightest prospects from the new French team, Raphael Varane again showed us yesterday why he is rated as one of the best of the new generation as he again put Cristiano Ronaldo in his pockets.

3)Diego Godin:

If there is on defender at the moment Manchester United should sign is Atletico Madrid defender Diego God in. The Uruguay CB is in form of his life.

2)Aymeric Laporte:

Aymeric Laporte who has been a part of the new Athletic club revolution, is a sure bet to succeed. The highly rated defender who's just 20 is one for the future.

1)Ryan Shawcross:

One of the most consistent defenders in the Premier league, there should be no surprise about Shawcross making the top spot. Well know for his game reading sense the defender has been impressive for Stoke city. A leader and a experienced head, Ryan Shawcross is what Manchester United need in defense.
