Just 22, and already one of the best keepers in the world, Thibaut Courtios is one who has already proven his worth and will do in the future as well.

Today we look, at 10 possible facts which you might not know about him!



1) Born in the Belgian city of Bree on 11th May 1992, Thibaut Courtios comes from a sports happy family. His sister plays volley ball for Belgium national team, his parents also played Volleyball at high levels.


2) The goalkeeper started out as a left-back before moving between the sticks.


3) Courtois made his first team debut for Belgian side Genk when he was just 16.


4) In his three years at Atletico Madrid, Courtois has helped the club to the Europa League, Uefa Super Cup and Copa del Rey titles and the La Liga title.


5) Courtois won the Ricardo Zamora trophy last season – an award for the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-to-games ratio in the La Liga.


6) Courtois became the youngest goalkeeper to ever represent the Belgian national side when he made his debut aged 19.


7) Joined Chelsea in 2011 signing a 5 year contract.


8) He was scouted by various clubs, but joined Chelsea for just £7m.


9) Thibaut Courtios had an affair with his Belgium team mate Kevin De Buryne's ex girlfriend.


10) ‘Thibauting’ was a term included in a poll for ‘Belgian sports word of the year’ in 2013, after it was coined by fans who wanted to pay respect to the goalkeeper.
