Football is considered to be one of the sports which are truly global as FIFA has official 292 member nations registered with it. The FIFA World Cup is one of the most watched events in the world. Thus it is no secret that the game is more than a mere entertainment sport.
Football is a sport which has touched lives of millions all round the world. There have been documented instances where people who have struggled for one reason or the other have got a new lease of life thanks to football.
FIFA too, undertakes many social initiatives like Football For Hope, which according to FIFA’s own admission is ‘a collection of programmes are providing children and young people with valuable tools that make a difference to their lives, while contributing to positive social development on a global scale by addressing the most pressing issues in each community.’
Along with Football For Hope, there is another initiative undertaken by an organization called Slum Soccer. They organize various events for the kids from underprivileged families based in India. There have been various documented instances where children from juvenile centres and foster homes have got a new meaning to life.
There is also another activity undertaken by FIFA which is to save environment from the damages caused by various activites. It is known as Football For Planet, and this program has been under implementation since 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
Also there is popular and in the limelight Say No to Racism campaign which tackles the issue of racism prevalent world over. So if you ever thought that it’s just a game, think again. It is more than just a game!
