The Indian captain has had a fruitful year as a player. Having won the I-League with Bengaluru FC, he was also awarded with AIFF Player of the Year for the last season.
Sunil Chettri started out his career at Mohun Bagan but he failed to impress there as he couldn’t hold on to a starting spot in the Bagan side. He then moved on to JCT Mills where he had his best years. He scored 21 goals for the Phagwara side in 48 apps. He had to leave the Millmen as the club went into administration in 2008.
Chettri then had stints abroad as well with signing for foreign clubs like Kansas City Wizards and Sporting B. Both the moves failed to materialize due to various reasons but the 30 year old gained some valuable exposure from these elite leagues. H had small stints with Mohun Bagan, chirag United and a loan spell at Churchill Brothers, where he was impressive scoring 11 goals in 18 apps.
He signed for Bengaluru FC in 2013 and led them to their maiden I-League title in their debut season. Chettri’s record for Indian team is quite phenomenal as he has scored 43 goals in mere 74 apps.
