The 31 year old American soccer player is far from tired. He created roaring records when he scored in the 31st second in his first World Cup 2014 game against Ghana, and played a pivotal role throughout the match. He is yet another one of the versatile forwards thanks to whom this World Cup has been seeing some fantastic action on the pitch. The goal he scores is fifth-fastest in World Cup history and is scored after perfectly receiving a pass from Jermaine Jones. Dempsey kicks it from the right side and shoots it into the far left of the goal.
Though this was the only goal he scored for his team, Dempsey was far from inactive during the match. He and Jermaine Jones become a team of sorts and attempt passes and goal-creating chances against Ghana, many of which are foiled by Ghana’s considerably strong game. He passes the ball with quick accuracy and it is seen how the rest of the team feels confident when they know that they are passing the goal to Dempsey.
The player is known to play a fuss-free game despite the injuries he faces. He has played for his New England team with a broken jaw and played on despite the severe beating his face took when Ghana’s Boye slammed him in the face (albeit by mistake) with his leg a few minutes before halftime.
His game in the second half doesn’t suffer as he continues making quick passes and scouting for the chance to score. His attempts at scoring henceforth are foiled by Ghana’s keeper Kwarasey. He is often perceived as a threat by the opposition much like Messi in Argentina or Neymar for Brazil, other players who are especially marked out and given trouble during matches.
The USA team faces the scattered Portugese tonight. While Portugal still largely remains a one-man team, the Americans are seen to work as a uni despite their slight dependence on Dempsey. If Dempsey and his team are able to handle Ronaldo’s surefire aggression, there could be a win on the horizon for the emerging team.
