The goals that excited fans and foes alike at the Round of 16 -

5. James Rodriguez (Columbia) versus Uruguay – 28th June

This goal can definitely be considered one of the best goals of the entire tournament. It starts with Columbian defender Armero shooting a dangerous cross towards the far post which is intercepted by a fantastic header by Cuadrado. Rodriguez receives it and swings it towards the left, saving it from Uruguayan defender Muslera and shooting the goal into the top-left corner of the goal. It was a long shot from 25 yards away at the 50th minute of the game, securing Columbia’s victory.

4. Dos Santos (Mexico) versus Netherlands – 29th June
The man who tried so hard to send his team to the quarterfinals failed, but he did leave behind a smashing goal to remember his efforts by. He shoots a very long-range goal from 25 yards away at the 18th minute of the goal, pushing Mexico temporarily into the lead.

3.
Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands) versus Mexico – 29th June He equalises at the 88th minute for Germany in this tense match against Mexico whose goalkeeper was proving impossible to score against. Here, a series of beautifully executed moves – Robben’s corner to Huntelaar’s header delivered the ball to Sneijder, who was quick to shoot a stunning volley from a 17-yard distance into the net.

2. Andre Schurrle (Germany) versus Algeria – 30th June
The game against Algeria dragged on through the match and across 4 minutes of stoppage time without a single goal from either side. However, the Chelsea an who was substituted in at half time took advantage of a left cross by Muller and shot in an excellent goal with the back of his heel in the 2nd minute of extra time.

1.  Alexis Sanchez (Chile) versus Brazil – 28th June

Poor defence on behalf of Brazil saw the Barcelona man grab a rare opportunity. He equalised Brazil’s goal by shooting a goal assisted by Eduardo Vargas, who was able to steal the ball from Brazil’s corner flag. It was a quick chance taken, and Sanchez’s accuracy is what made the goal happen.
