The Remembering Liverpool vs Chelsea

These are two teams from two different set of ideology. Never a direct rivals these two are rivals from specific periods – moments in time defined by titanic tussles between teams.

Liverpool and Chelsea played each other an incredible 24 times in between 2004-2009. From Champions league semi finals to community shield. So it's no wonder it created a rivalry.

To add to all that, there was the Jose Mourinho vs Rafael Benitez rivalry. From being name calling to defaming each other, both the managers put up an show which was unmatched and unseen in the British isle's before.

Mourinho took charge of a newly cash reach, auger daddy backed Chelsea side, who where always known as a sleeping giant. Jose Mourinho had won the race to the Chelsea seat as he stormed the world as he won a treble including the Champions league with Porto that season.

On the other hand the Spaniard - Rafael Benitez was coming back from his own season of success at Valencia as he had won the La Liga and UEFA Cup double.

In their very first season as the managers of the new English club which they had taken charge of, Chelsea defeated Liverpool in the League cup finals by 3-2 to stomp the league with a new giants presence as the steam rolled teams to the league title as won the league by 11 points while Liverpool finished 31 points behind league leaders and eventual winners Chelsea.

But Liverpool turned their season around with their fifth Champions league trophy win as the defeated Chelsea in the semi's and won the dramatic finals against Ac Milan.

The 2007 Champions League semi finals again saw Chelsea take on Liverpool but this time, there was no Jose Mourinho to guide the Blues.

Incredibly, Liverpool and Chelsea were drawn to play each other for five consecutive seasons in the Champions League, and it was Mourinho's successors who finally got the better of Benitez in continental competition.

Chelsea defeated Liverpool under the management of interim manager Avram Grant as the won the tie 4-3 to go past Liverpool to play their first every Champions league final in 2008.

The following season, Liverpool where knocked out of the CL in the group stage.

With it went the feeling of intense rivalry between Liverpool and Chelsea that had been generated by going toe-to-toe in major cup clashes.

While Liverpool were collecting cups, Chelsea were winning league titles.
