Top 10 Long range Goals

From Banana kicks to Screamers to Bullets to volleys. This is a list of the best long yarders in football.

1. Roberto Carlos – vs France

This has to be on the number 1 spot. The guy who made the Banana Kick a rage the world over. He scored a mindboggling freekick against France in 1997 which is arguably one the best freekicks ever witnessed by football fans from across the generations.

2. David Beckham – vs Wimbledon

This is the most iconic goals in the history of football. This 55 yard strike brought an almost unknown player from Manchester United’s academy into the spotlight of world football. This was his first of many crown jewels, which he created later on in his career.

3. Wayne Rooney – vs West Ham

He just scored that one from out of nowhere. This goal was one of the few positives that brought a smile on United fans’ face last year in a tumultuous reign of David Moyes. He scored that almost from the halfway line.

4. Steven Gerard – vs West Ham

He scored a dream goal for the Liverpool fans who were trailing to the Hammers 3-2 with just seconds away from defeat to them in a FA Cup final in 2006. But the Kop legend stood up at the last minute to save the blushes and led them to FA Cup glory.

5. Paul Scholes – vs Barcelona

The Ginger Prince was known for his thunderous volleys from outside the box throughout his career. He had scored a lot of goals in that fashion but the one which stands out of the lot is the one at the Camp Nou which propelled Manchester United to Champions’ League finals.

6. Cristiano Ronaldo – vs Porto

Again a classic from Champions League. Ronaldo scored the solitary goal in the quarterfinal tie against FC Porto at the Estadio Dragao for Manchester United. This has to be the one of his best goals of all time.

7. Clarence Seedorf - vs Atletico Madrid

This has to be one of the most audacious goals ever. Only Seedorf can pull off such goals. He scored an absolute blinder is an understatement. Such was the quality of his goal.

8. Xabi Alonso – vs Newcastle

This is surely the best goal of his career. He scored a screamer from his own half and how! Only genius of Alonso can replicate such feats on a regular basis.

9. Sir Bobby Charlton - vs Mexico

This was the one of the few known screamers from the early days of football. He scored an absolute blinder against Mexico which is still revered in England till date.

10. Luis Suarez – vs Norwich City

He scored a bomber from 45 yards out against his favourite opposition, Norwich City. It was by far the best goal he scored during his stay at Anfield. What a way to cap off a brace.
