Match Reports - Day 12 Of The Girls Junior National Football Championship 2015

The twelfth day of The Girls Junior National Football Championship 2015 went ahead as scheduled, today, in Goa. The tournament that is organized by Goa Football Association in alliance with the All India Football Federation had a total of 2 matches played on the 16th of October. The match reports of the same are as follows:

Matches No. 38 & 39

Match No.38- Odisha v/s Delhi, 7:30am, Raia Panchayat Ground, Raia

Final Score: Odisha 1-0 Delhi

Odisha scores a hard fought 1-0 victory over Delhi to top Group II in the Quarterfinal League of the Junior National Championship for Girls U-18, 2015. Delhi and Odisha, the unbeaten teams in Group II of the quarterfinal clashed at Raia this morning to decide the group winner. The match was inconsequential as both had qualified to the semifinals.

Delhi rested their attacking midfielder Mariya Khan, who had in the previous matches created unrest in the opposition ranks, in combination with India international Anushka Samuel. Odisha on the other hand played a largely unchanged side from their last game against Goa.

Odisha skipper Anima Malik put her side ahead with a curling free-kick from just outside the box that got the better of Delhi goalkeeper Ketaki Tyagi in the 8th minute of the first half. Post the goal, Odisha went on the offensive with Arathi Sethi on the right, Banya Kabiraj and Jasmani Samad combining well. The Delhi defence line were up to the task with Tithi Roy playing the role of defensive sweeper.

The second half saw sporadic raids from Delhi forward Anushka Samuel who was fed by Prerana Negi and Chetna Dhadwal, but the Odisha defence of Laxmi Munda, Janaki Murmu, Jabamani Tudu and Sasmita Behera neutralised most attacks.

In the end, the match ended 1 - 0 in favour of Odisha.

Match No.39- Goa v/s Mizoram, 7:30am, Rosary Sports Complex, Navelim

Final Score: Goa 4-0 Mizoram

Goa score an impressive 4-0 win over Mizoram in their last Quarter Finals match of the ongoing National Football Championship for Girls U-18, 2015 bringing cheer to the local crowd. Sushmita H. Jadhav was the star of the match for Goa by scoring a fine hat-trick including an individual solo effort in the 79th min where she dribbled past two Mizoram defenders and deftly placed the ball in the back of the net. Goa started off well and was raring for a fine finish to the tournament having suffered two narrow losses in their first two Quarter Finals encounters. Velanie Fernandes opened the scoring for Goa with a good long range effort in the 24th min of play. Sushmita Jadhav followed with a goal of her own in the very next min of play with a goal in the 25th min of play putting Mizoram in a shell shocked situation with two goals in the space of two minutes. Goa were in complete control of the match from this point onwards and Sushmita Jadhav got her 2nd goal and made it 3-0 for Goa with a goal in the 36th min. Goa went into the half-time break with a comfortable margin of 3-0. Coming out of the half way break, Mizoram pressed hard to find a goal to make it an interesting contest but Cynthia Diana Lobo, Scindia Veganano Saundatikar and Genieve Jacklin Fernandes stood rock solid in the backline for Goa and thwarted all attacks made by Mizoram forwards and denied Mizoram of goal scoring opportunities. Marlat Cardozo worked tirelessly for Goa driving the team forward. Velanie Fernandes also made numerous long range efforts at goal, some of which were really close misses. The campaign ended for Goa with 3 wins and 2 losses in the tournament. The Goa team being a development team with lot of youngsters in the age group of 15-17yrs of age has a very bright future and given the right training and attention will assist in the revival of women’s football in Goa and help it reach its pinnacle in the coming years.
