Bengaluru FC thumped a spirited Sporting side in semis to foil an all Goan finals with a 3-0 win. Star striker Sunil Chettri registered himself on the score sheet as Bengaluru FC marched on.
A stupendous first half was more than enough to brush Sporting aside as Sean Rooney breathed fire. He scored one and set up Chettri’s goal as Bengaluru had a two goal cushion by the end of first forty-five minutes. A cagey beginning to the game soon turned into an more adventurous one as the half wore on. Rooney used his pace to get behind the Sporting defense after playing a delightful one-two with Keegan Perreira.
Chettri was returned the favor by the Australian when set him for his fabulous goal as the Indian skipper beat a defender before thumping it past a hapless Ravi.
The second half was all Sporting show as the Goan side just came all guns blazing at the southern side. A superb save by Ralte, who parried a sublime freekick from Wolfe and few near misses from Sporting forwards notably from Wolfe whose blinder of a shot was denied it’s space in the goal by the post.
The I-league champions scored in the 87th minute as their midfield domination paved way to the death knell of a goal from Eugeneson Lyngdoh. Robin Singh’s brilliant ball completed a fine counter by Bengaluru as Lyngdoh killed the game.
Bengaluru will face yet another Goan side as Dempo will look to stop this southern juggernaut.
