Chelsea was held to a 1-1 by a spirited Southampton side as the south coasters make a case for their European credentials. Diego Costa’s header gave hosts the lead but soon it was cancelled out by a spot kick from Dusan Tadic.
Chelsea started off in style as they looked to get behind the disappointment in midweek and they gave a perfect response to it by taking an early lead via Diego Costa. The Spaniard scored a cool header off Branislav Ivanovic’s cross. This was the last minute where Chelsea looked convincing for the remainder of the half.
From here on it was all Southampton as they clawed their way back into the game. Sadio Mane had the game of his life as he wreaked havoc on Chelsea’s defense. It was his cheeky one-two with Wanyama which gave Saints the penalty and their way back into the game. The visitors had the league leaders on the mat at the end of first half.
The second half was along the expected lines as Chelsea came out stronger of the two teams. And they looked like the one who will break the deadlock. Saints were not as impactful as they were in the first half but they had their moments as Mane led handful of counters for them.
