The Real Madrid superstar is also in the reckoning for the prestigious Laureus Athlete of the Year. Laureus is given to the best sportsperson in the calendar year across the sporting disciplines. Ronaldo faces competition from tennis stars Novak Djokovic along with F1 champion Lewis Hamilton and golfing star Rory Mcllroy.
Moto GP star Marc Maquez is also a contender for this prestigious award. In past, legendary players like Roger Federer and Tiger Woods have won this award. Laureus is considered the highest award a sportsperson can ever win.
The Portuguese winger’s teammate James Rodriguez is also in the mix for Newcomer of the Year award where he will face competition from Bayern Munich and Germany attacker Mario Gotze, US Open champion Marin Cilic, Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo and Switzerland's Davis Cup team.
James Rodriguez has also been nominated in the newcomer of the year award category for his heroics in the WC2014?
Real Madrid and German football team are also in the running for team of the year awards.
