Atletico de Kolkata build up on their opening day victory over Mumbai as they beat NEUSC by two goals in their own den. Kolkata drew first blood in the East India derby. Fikru and a late goal by Podany sealed the deal for the visitors.

Last game’s scorer Borja Fernandez was sent off as he collected second yellow for diving inside North East’s penalty box. Atletico de Kolkata looked comfortable from beginning as North East were searching for their rhythm. The home side looked a tired lot. Borja Fernandez was on the verge of scoring another blinder but this time he hit straight to Greek stopper Alex Tzorvas.

But it took only 15 minutes for the visitors to get themselves a lead as they broke the deadlock with super goal from Fikru. Fikru with 2 goals in as many games is the top scorer in the tournament. A sublime manoeuvre orchestrated by Luis Garcia from the heart of midfield.

Atletico won both the key battles – as they managed to get total domination in midfield and their talismanic striker Fikru managed to get past his marker Monga.

North East tried to get some life back into the game as they came agonisingly close via Englishman James Keene but he wasted the opportunity by straying offside. Tzorvas certainly had a busy night as he constantly looked helplessly at his defenders.

Atletico finally managed to convert their domination into a comfortable two goal cushion and a winner as they split open a lost North East defense just moments after being reduced down to 10 men. Jakub Podany calmly slotted the ball past Tzorvas and Kolkata romped home to victory.

Kolkata sit atop the league table with 6 points from two games.
