Champions were held to a draw by a plucky Chelsea side as David Silva turns Sergio Aguero’s miscue into a much needed equalizer.
The game was much hyped in its build up with Jose Mourinho’s boycott of press adding to the flavor along with Frank Lampard’s return to the Stamford Bridge. But the game failed to live upto its hype as it was drab draw with City dominating the proceedings despite trailing to Loic Remy’s goal for three minutes.
Chelsea were awful to say the least at the night as they missed their talismans in Fabregas and Costa due to various reasons. Despite all this, against the run of play they took a shock lead through Loic Remy who slotted the ball home on a Eden Hazard’s well weighted pass. After this goal, Chelsea were anything but good as all their attacking stalwarts were out of sync. If not for Chelsea’s defence, City would have run away with the game.
City on the other hand, was unlucky to not score more than once. David Silva and Jesus Navas were their standout performers. Kurt Zouma and John Terry’s brave defending stalled them for the night. The moment of homecoming arrived in 77th minute when Chelsea legend Frank Lampard made his return to the Bridge amidst mixed reactions.
The result leaves City five points behind the leaders Chelsea as the title charge intensifies.
