Chennaiyin FC 2-2 NorthEast United FC


A bad result for the side from south as a win yesterday would have taken them to top of the league, but Marco Materrazi coached side could only manage a draw as NEUFC player Koke a late equalizer.



The game started with the teams making a couple of substitutions on each, Chennai having to make a imposed change as their keeper was sent of last game. Materrazi made himself a permanent fixture in the midfield with Jeje coming in to partner Mendoza.



The home side kicked off the proceedings, with neither side showing much attacking impetus in the first 15 mins of the game. The teams where happy to keep the ball and play it around but as the clock reached the 20 min mark, there was a sudden wave of Chennai attack which saw Elano Blumer combine with Khabra and Mendoza with the striker eventually taking the shot and the opposition saving it.



Chennai scored the opening in the 25th min of the game, with Devadas was running with vigor on the left flank as he put in a cross which was met with Elano's head. 1-Nil Chennaiyin with Elano scoring his 7th league goal of the season.



Chennai wanted more as they pressed high and tried to double their lead, but NorthEast United scored against the run of play as NEUFC equalised from a long ball forward from Miguel Garcia caused uncertainty, to James Keene latched on to head it onto Doungel who finished the effort. The score was tied in the first half.



As the second half commenced, NorthEast United where given a free kick for a foul on Doungel. But was blasted over. Chennai looked flat as they looked for some kind of creative spark. With Mendoza, was replaced by Maurice and Jeje was taken off for Singh.



Chennai were denied a clear cut penalty as Balwant Signh as the fans and Chennai bench protested which was clear cut pen. But the frustration brought the best out of Elano who scored a tremendous goal, where he beat three defenders to curl of the effort the keeper.


The second half end was a heated affair as, Koke capitalised on a moment of madness as two chennai defenders went for the same ball as he scored a great volley to get a point from a tough away game.
