Crystal palace stun Manchester City
Man City: Hart 6, Sagna 6.5, Kompany 6, Demichelis 6, Clichy 5.5, Jesus Navas 5 (Nasri 77), Toure 7, Fernandinho 6 (Milner 87), Silva 7.5, Aguero 6, Dzeko 5 (Lampard 66)
Crystal Palace dent Manchester City hopes of title defense as they trump them 2-1 at Selhurst Park as goals from Glenn Murray and a brilliant free kick from Jason Puncheon sealed all the three points for the hosts. The defending champs slide down to fourth place after this defeat.
Palace opened the scoring in 34th minute as Glenn Murray scored from close range on a Yannick Bolasie cross from the flanks. There were elements of offside but referee waved off all the protests from City defenders and the goal stood by.
Soon, Selhurst Park witnessed a moment of brilliance as Jason Puncheon scored a stunning freekick from just outside the box and gave Palace a strong lead of two goals. City looked down and out by the time both teams went into the dressing room during the interval.
City did clawed their way back with a goal from Sergio Aguero in the 67th minute but it was too late for the Citizens to catch up as Palace held onto their lead and denied City everything. City now languish in fourth place behind Arsenal and Manchester United.
The defeat also has threatened Manuel Pellegrini’s job who has failed to achieve the peaks he scaled in his debut season.
