Liverpool manager Brendan RodgSouthampton’sers was finally successful in securing the services of a playmaker with the signing of Southampton’s Adam Lallana for £25 million.
The deal was finalized after the England midfielder underwent a thorough medical examination after which he agreed to the terms set by the club.
With his 5-year contract, Lallana became the third Liverpool signing of the summer behind former Southampton team-mate and compatriot Rickie Lambert and Emre Can.
Here’s what Rodgers had to say about the affair: “We are delighted to have secured the services of one of the Premier League’s top talents in signing Adam Lallana.
“What is apparent about Adam is that his character is on a par with his talent. He is an exceptional young man and someone who has a love for the game – and, most importantly, a desire to progress and improve.
“Adam is motivated by being the best he can be and being part of something special. We believe he fits right in with what we are trying to do at Liverpool,” the Irish told Liverpoolfc.com.
The signing of the Southampton captain comes as Liverpool qualified to the Champions League after a long hiatus and manager Rodgers wants to make the most of their upcoming campaign in Europe.
Rodgers also lauded the 26-year-old’s style of play as he said, “We have seen, over the past two seasons in the Premier League, he has a tactical awareness to adapt to what is required of him and to put the team above his personal ambitions.
“He has leadership skills and personal qualities that make him a special commodity and I am delighted we have acted decisively to make sure he is wearing a Liverpool shirt next season”, said the Liverpool boss.
