It comes as a rude shock to everyone as Newcastle United turn a blind eye after the Argentinean reveals he's suffering from testicular cancer, a rarest of rare disease. The midfielder has featured for Newcastle since April. The Argentinian has been undergoing chemotherapy sessions in his home land.
The 31-year-old Argentine tweeted on Tuesday: "Thanks for all the messages. Always looking forward."
Speaking to a television he said: "When I confirmed that I had cancer I went home crying. This was the most difficult game I had to play.
"I detected a tumor in a testicle. I came here [Argentina] and I assumed the costs, despite having a contract with Newcastle. Money is not important. What is important is health and I had to start chemotherapy.
"I removed the left testicle. I returned to England and Newcastle told me to leave. It was hard to find my hair falling out. I did not want to cut it. I wanted to hold on. Fighting cancer makes the rest of the problems insignificant.
"I decided to tell my story because maybe it will help people who have cancer."
Jones goes on to add that:
He said:"I returned at end of November. In mid-December, manager [Alan Pardew] told me it would be best for me to find another club. The hardest part is over, I’ve got a couple of sessions of chemo left.
"The end [of treatment] is a little closer each day. I told some people that I’d had my head shaved as a promise for something, so as not to have to tell everyone all the details.
Argentinian footballing legend Heinze, wishing Jonas well with his recovery:
"[Gabriel] Heinze was a great help, he called me and told me to keep fighting… a guy like him, a hard guy, was good support. I wanted to tell this story to help people, if I can. I got an email from someone in a similar situation the other day."
We here at The Football Mind wish Jonas Gutierrez a speedy recovery.
