We’re right in letting Frank leave! – Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has hit back at his critics who are criticizing him for letting club’s all time leading scorer and legend Frank Lampard leave at the end of last season. The midfielder has joined New York City but is on loan at Manchester City.

"The project is to prepare for the next 10 years, not the next year - we made the right decision," Mourinho said.

The former England international has scored six goals this season for the defending champions but the Special One is unfazed and has voraciously defended inclusion of ageing stars Didier Drogba and John Terry in his squad.

"You can argue 'You have John Terry and Didier Drogba. Different. Drogba is a striker that is coming to help and support the team," Mourinho said.

"John Terry is the best central defender in English football and it doesn't matter how old he is.

"The nucleus of the team has to be developed and to have a big player like Frank we would stop the development of the other guys."
