Lampard regrets Man City Loan extension
Lampard will make his NYCFC debut against Toronto
The former Chelsea and England player revealed he will not return to an English club on loan from new club New York City, while expressing regrets about the mid-season saga over his loan at Manchester City.
Manchester City and New York City FC which is a part of the group clubs which is owned by Abu Dhabi billionaire Sheik Mansoor, wanted Frank Lampard to stay.
'I was asked from the top to stay on in Manchester, so it wasn't an easy position for me to be in,' Lampard said. 'I'm not trying to wash my hands of it because I am a man and I make my decisions, but it kind of felt right at the time to carry on playing.
'The situation happened as it did and I kind of sat there and, yeah, when you stay on and the club really wanted me to stay on, and I thought I'd play more matches, obviously. It didn't work out that way. I looked at New York and I knew that's what I signed up for. It was a strange feeling.'
The Chelsea legend could be seen back in England during the MLS off-season but he has already said it won't be in a playing capacity.
'I might train somewhere to stay fit (after the MLS season),' he told journalists in New York. 'But I won't play anywhere. I've had my time in the Premier League and Europe and it's not going to happen now.'
