Match Report
The 223rd Merseyside derby was no different than any, as the game was fierce, edge of the seat, entertaining. The game started with to set of supporters singing the legendary YNWA tune together. With game kicking off, it was the home side who had the upper hand as Everton who made uncomfortable in first few minutes of play, with Adam Lallana running at the defense as Gareth Barry brought him down.
Baloteli wasted the free kick as the game continued it saw Mirallas pulling up a hamstring. He was replaced by McGeady. Who had a istant impact on the game. With calls for penalties from both sides waved off by the ref, the half ended which saw the home side dominate with lots of chances at the Everton's goal.
As the teams came out for the second half, Brendan Rodgers was seen briefing his two english youngsters as they had little impact. Liverpool where once again the team who where making all the noises but for the right reasons, as Balotelli managed to hold up the ball to bring in his fellow team mates in to the game, with full backs Moreno and Manqullio bombing forward at every given opportunity.
With debutant Markovic having no major impact on the game, he was replaced by Coutinho. At hour mark, Balotelli wad fouled by Baines just out side the box. With captain Steven Gerrard on the ball, the stadium sensed this was the opportunity for the home side.
As he took the free kick, the ball flew in with such pace, that Howard's hands couldn't stop it. With the impact created by new boy Coutinho, Liverpool almost doubled thier lead through Sterling. The game was almost dead, just two minutes before the end, Everton were handed a corner. As the corner was cleared, it fell to Everton captain Phil Jags, as he hit the ball which was unstoppable to earn his club a respectable point at Anfield.
