An extra-time winner from Robbie Keane gives LA Galaxy a record fifth MLS Cup as they beat Revolution 2-1 in the finals.
Landon Donovan was playing in the last game of his fairy tale career and he did have a happy ending. LA Galaxy were a tad off the pace and looked rugged but they dug in deep to grind out a result. Galaxy took lead as Gyasi Zardes scored in a beautiful goal in 52nd minute but their joy didn’t last long as New England Revolution leveled the tie in 70th minute through Chris Tierney’s edgy goal.
The game stretched into extra-time as both the teams failed to break the deadlock in the regular time. Cometh the hour cometh the man! Robbie Keane turned down the clock as he made a stunning run in 110th minute and sealed the match for the hosts with a thumping finish.
Galaxy won fifth cup on the trot and defeated New England for the third time in a row. Donovan ended his career as the all time leading scorer in MLS with 144 goals in 344 games. TFM wishes Donovan a good life post retirement!
