Mumbai City FC swept their opening day blues aside by thrashing FC Pune City by 5 goals with forward Andre Moritz scoring a stunning hat-trick. This was their first home game of the season.
The atmosphere at DY Patil Stadium was electric as the Mumbaikars were in full force to support their team in this derby. Pune started the game on a bright note as David Trezeguet skimmed his freekick from just outside the box over the crossbar. But it was all Mumbai from then on.
Andre Moritz scored a superb goal from the right hand side as the hosts went 1-0 up inside 12 minutes. Then Pune upped the ante but a superb counter attack by hosts pegged them 2-0 when Moritz bagged his second off a corner.
Again a superb counterattacking football gave hosts their third with Subhash slotting the ball home in a one vs one situation with the goalkeeper. A string of moves between Stonzahl and Moritz kept Pune defense on guard. But the magic moment of match came in 68th minute when Freddie Ljungberg made his debut in ISL for Mumbai. The crowd went berserk as they were chanting his name with verve and passion.
In 71st minute Moritz completed his hat-trick and became first player in ISL to score a hat-trick. With minutes to go Mumbai added fifth via a stunner from Letzelter. A classic display of football with dash of star power, all in all a perfect derby day for the Konkan team.
