Match Preview – Arsenal vs Spurs

Continuing with the derby fever, we hop on to North London to preview the high profile rivalry between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs. It has always been about Arsenal as far as this rivalry is concerned, not until Spurs had a revolution of their own.

Both the North London sides have been jostling for the coveted Champions League spot for almost every season since 2010. Arsenal have till now managed to pip their cross town rivals every time. The derby is also about the bragging rights as Spurs of late are trying to move out of the shadows of their more illustrious rivals.

Preview

Arsenal

Arsenal is having a mixed run of form as they have won only once in their last four matches. They suffered a shock defeat to Southampton at home in Capital One Cup this week. In league, the Gunners have won one and drawn one in their last two games against Aston Villa and Manchester City.

Spurs

Spurs too are having poor run of form after starting their league campaign promisingly with wins over West Ham and QPR. Since then, they’ve suffered losses against Liverpool and a misfiring West Brom. The Lilywhites did manage a win against lowly Nottingham Forest, but it’s hardly a morale booster ahead of a crunch derby fixture.

Team News

Arsenal

Arsene Wenger will be without Mathieu Debuchy, who is out for three months after he underwent ankle surgery this week. Nacho Monreal and Mathieu Flamini are expected to shrug off their respective knocks and return for the derby.

Spurs

The visitors have no fresh injury concerns at present. Kyle Walker remains only one out of this derby fixture due to a groin injury.

Probable Lineups

Arsena

Szczesny; Chambers, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal; Wilshere, Ramsey, Flamini, Ozil, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Welbeck.

Spurs

Lloris; Dier, Chiriches, Kaboul, Rose; Lennon, Dembele, Capoue, Eriksen, Lamela; Adebayor,

Prediction

This derby has been an all Arsenal affair in recent past, as Gunners haven’t lost to their bitter rivals for almost three seasons.
