Real Madrid look like a team with vengeance on their mind. After losing to local rivals Atletico Madrid, Real have pumped in 13 goals in two matches in a span of three days. They thrashed Basel 5-1 at the Bernabeu and carried on from where they left against Deportivo. Los Blancos ran riot as they mauled their humble hosts 2-8 at Riazor.
Madrid started this game where they ended their game against Basel in midweek. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hattrick while his wing partner Gareth Bale and Manchester United loanee Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez scored a brace. And in the midst of all this, James Rodriguez also chipped in with a goal.
Cristiano opened the scoring in 29th minute with a sublime header. This set the tempo for rest of the game. Minutes later, marquee signing James scored a stunner from 25 yards out as Real doubled their lead. Ronaldo again struck just four minutes from halftime albeit this time from quite a distance. Los Blancos were in comfortable position with a 3-0 lead at the stroke of the halftime.
Deportivo began with a sense of vigour post interval. They started to test Madrid's resolve and began bombing forward with more freedom. And they were rewarded for it. A dubious decision by the linesman to award Sergio Ramos handball in his own box resulted in the penalty. Medunjanin stepped up and sent keeper Iker Casillas the wrong way. Home side got a lifeline in the early stages of the second half.
All the hopes of a comeback went down the drain as Gareth Bale scored a quick brace in span of 8 minutes. Ronaldo completed his hattrick in 79th minute with a shot from left side in the box. The match was well done and dusted by the time, Deportivo got their consolation goal via substitute Toché in the 83rd minute.
The thrashing was far from over as Real Madrid's super sub Chicharito scored two super goals from a distance. This was purely training ground stuff as the Mexican poacher was hardly bothered by the Deportivo defenders.
