Champs Air India score over Western Railway 4-1


Mumbai, April 29: High-flying Air India cruised to a comfortable 4-1 win against Western Railway in an Elite Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15 and played at the Cooperage ground on Wednesday evening.

Defending champions Air India made a perfect take-off scoring the opening goal through Harold Fernandes in the very second minute. Western Railway fought back and restored parity through Reuben D’Souza in the 25th minute before Air India regained the lead when Nicolau Borges found the net in the 36th minute.

Air India scored two more goals in the second half with Sagar Chile netting the third in the 46th minute and Melwin Stevin the fourth deep into stoppage time to complete a deserving win for the airmen.

Earlier in the morning, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers (RCF) riding on Rahul Yadav’s double strikes blanked Companeroes SC 3-0. Kadam Singh had scored the first goal in the 41st minute.

Results – Elite Division: Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers 3 (Kadam Singh 41st, Rahul Yadav 60th, 62nd).

Air India 4 (Harold Fernandes 2nd, Nicolau Borges 25th, Sagar Chile 46th, Melvin Stevin 90+3rd) beat Western Railway 1 (Reuben D’Souza 25th).

Tanveer hat-trick fires Railway Police to big win


Mumbai, April 29: Mumbai Railway Police produced a brilliant combined performance to outplay Shree Mauli Mandal by a 6-0 margin in a one-sided Third Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel, on Wednesday evening.

The hero of Railway Police’s victory was striker Tanveer Shaikh who fired home a fine hat-trick. Shaikh’s teammates Santosh Aavhad, Sanjay Mangala and Allwyn Kanjilal, all chipped in with a goal apiece to complete the winning tally.

In other matches of the same division, Creek View SC tamed Kings Circle United 5-1 and Rahul Mitra Mandal overcame Daspatti VKM by a 4-1 margin.

Results –Div-III: Mumbai Railway Police 6 (Tanveer Shaikh 3, Santosh Aavhad, Sanjay Mangala, Allwyn Kanjilal) beat Shree Mauli Mandal 0.

Creek View SC 5 (Robin D’Souza 2, Anthony D’Souza 2, Siddesh Kamble) beat Kings Circle United 1 (Ashish Pawar).

Rahul Mitra Mandal 4 (Pranal Shetty 2, Adil Zafferbhoy, Freedon) beat Daspatti VKM 1 (Pranav Tambe).

Mumbai: The D’Assisi Ex-Students Charitable Association (DECA) will be organising the Rev. Bro Edward Lobo and Rev. Bro Norbert Corascco Memorial 7-a-side football tournament at the St. Francis D’Assisi High School ground, Borivali (West) on Friday, May 1, 2015.
