Chelsea edged past a plucky Shrewsbury Town side to move into the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup. Didier Drogba scored for the visitors.
Chelsea was really shabby all day long as a second string side selected by Jose Mourinho struggled to get into any sort of rhythm. The hosts were pumped up for getting into the giant killing mode. The first half was an ordeal to watch as the game was lumbering at snail’s pace.
The game came alive in second half as Chelsea slowly got into their stride. Didier Drogba opened the scoring for the game. This was his third goal in as many games. It seemed Chelsea would see this game through with ease, but the League One side had plans of their own.
Winger Andy Mangan pulled one back for the hosts sending the crowd into frenzy and Mou in fury on touchlines. It looked like it was going to be another 1-1 for the Premier League leaders but an own goal from Grandison killed the joy that the home fans were having. Willian’s well drilled in cross did the defender in.
Chelsea somehow managed to save the blushes and made their way into quarter-finals.
