Mumbai FC coach Jamil keen to play for a win
Mumbai FC coach Khalid Jamil is not willing to settle for anything less than a win when they take on Bharat FC in the concluding I-League match at the Cooperage ground on Saturday evening. Playwin is the official sponsor of Mumbai FC, who are the only club for the city participating in this competition.
“We will play for a win as only that result would ensure that we are safe from relegation,” stated Jamil during a pre-match press briefing.
Mumbai FC with 21 points from 4 wins and 6 draws are presently in 6th position ahead of Salgaocar SC, who also have the same number of points. Salgaocar take on Dempo SC (19 points) in a Goan Derby and if the match ends in a draw or if the latter loses than Mumbai will not be relegated. The other teams who are in danger of going down are Shillong Lajong and Sporting Clube de Goa both with the same number of 20 points. Lajong take on East Bengal (29 points) Sporting meet Pune FC (29 points).
“We had a good practice session this evening and everybody enjoyed the drills and ready for the last game,” Jamil said.
Jamil also mentioned that the important thing for him is to get the combination right. “The last game is the most difficult one. It’s difficult to motivate the players and I also have to choose the correct combination, which will deliver,” he said.
Mumbai FC will continue to miss goalkeeper Nidhinlal A.C. who is yet to recover from a hand injury. Midfielders Sampath Kuttimany and Reisanmei Vashum are also on the casualty list and will miss the match.
Medio Taisukae Matsugae and Brazilian striker Josimar Da Silva will have to shoulder the burden of leading the Mumbai FC attack while Nigerian defender Chika Wali and Justine Stephine will form the core of the defence.
The Mumbai club will go into the match with a psychological edge having defeated the Pune club 2-0 in the away encounter.
The match will kick-off at 4.30 pm and will be telecast live on TenHD
