Newcastle United are pursuing Patrick Vieira as potential new manager
Patrick Vieira has been shortlisted for the post of Newcastle’s Manager. The Ex-Arsenal midfielder is one of the four candidates who have been shortlisted for the job. He is currently the manager of Manchester City’s under-21 squad. The former Juventus midfielder will be out of contract this summer and is rumoured to want to test himself in the Premier League.
The French star midfielder has has revamped the City youth system in recent times. However he has had no managerial experience so far and is keen to do so. Newcastle’s squad has a number of French players and Vieira would definitely have that as an advantage over the other candidates.
Patrick Vieira won 3 league titles and 4 FA cups with Arsenal has also won the World Cup with his national side, France, back in 1998. He has won the Italian league once with Juventus and thrice with Internazionale. He has won the Italian Cup 3 times during his spell at Inter. Vieira has won Euro 2000 and the Confederations cup in 2001, where he managed to bag the only goal scored in the final. Vieira made his return to English top flight when he joined Manchester City, with whom he won another FA Cup.
On 14 July 2011, Vieira announced his retirement from playing and accepted a training and youth development role at Manchester City with the title of Football Development Executive. In May 2013 Vieira was appointed as the club's new reserve team and Elite Development squad manager.
Steve McLaren and John Carver are the other candidates that the Club is looking at. Steve is rumoured to be the favourite amongst the batch whereas Carver is a close second. Newcastle have been without a permanent head coach since Alan Pardew joined Crystal Palace in January.
