Transfer Rumors - Real Madrid eyeing Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling is the latest young superstar is linked with the capital side Real Madrid for a summer transfer, reports English daily The Mirror.
According to John Cross of Mirror, the 19 year old is Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s prime target next summer. These reports are emerging on the back of failed contract renewal talks between the player and the club. Sterling’s current deal is worth around £30,000-a-week and runs till June 2017. The player’s camp wants an improve package for their client as Sterling on his current payroll is earning way less than his other Liverpool teammates. But Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is adamant that the player will have to wait to get an improved deal.
Rodgers said:
“A new contract is something that will be done with Raheem, but we must be careful.”
Rodgers added:
“When you reward young players too quickly – Raheem’s still only 19 – you give them too much too early and that will be their downfall.
“There’s no doubt he is at a good level, but English players get rewarded too quickly here – that’s what ends up killing them. We must keep the kids in this country incentivised."
“It’s a big problem because they lose their hunger. You see them buying new Range Rovers before they've even passed their driving test. Young players get carried away and then wonder why their careers fall away.”
This breakdown in talks has alerted Real Madrid, who has dollops of cash to spend and strengthen their squad after the sale of Angel Di Maria. The Englishman has been tremendous for both his club as well as country for the past six to seven months. He has been on radar of many top clubs with Los Blancos leading the charge.
