The Saints have had brilliant start to their season under new manager Koeman. Pochettino who one’s seemed indispensable (so was the state with Nigel Adkin) have overcome their ex’s as they sit third on the table ahead of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham who traditionally make the top four.
Southampton who were raided for their player and whose manager was poached away by a club bigger than themselves found it very hard replace their out-going players. Koeman who left Feyenoord to take the managerial role at Southampton, did very well to sign the likes of Sadio Mane, Tadic, Bertrand, Foster and Pelle.
The way, the new players and the new manager have settled in is tremendous, and the results of his work is being displayed on the field with a 8-0 drubbing of Sunderland. But the major point hear is, can Southampton mount a serious challenge for the top four spot? Can they be consistent enough and get through the festive period with any scratch?
They do have the squad to mount the top 4 challenge, but the teams they are competing with are quite superior and are all accustomed to one or the other coming through it. Arsenal, Liverpool, United are all season campaigners. Though they might be struggling, all the three are expected to compete for a place in the top four. With Spurs and Everton struggling too, there is good chance of the saints qualifying for the Europa league if not the Champions league.
