It was a heartbreak for Sheffield Wednesday as a late Christian Eriksen strike sent Spurs into the Capital One Cup finals. The North London club edged past Sheffield on aggregate after playing an exciting 2-2 draw at Bramall Lane.
Spurs took an early first half lead through Christian Eriksen as he scored a sublime freekick which flew past Sheffield keeper Howard. The Spurs were looking to set for a berth in the finals but some late heroics in the last 20 minutes led to an exciting finish.
Substitute Che Adams scored twice in two minutes as he put Sheffield Wednesday in driving seat. Adams came off the bench and scored first in 77th minute and other in 79th minute as some nervy defending and poor goalkeeping gave Sheffield hope of a Wembley finale out of nowhere. From dreaming of Wembley finale to going out at Bramall Lane, Spurs’ fortunes changed with minutes.
It took some brilliance from Harry Kane and Man of the Match Christian Eriksen to save Spurs the blushes. Harry Kane’s defence splitting pass and Eriksen’s cool finish broke Wednesday fans’ hearts and jubilation spread through the away fans who were back in the groove on a snowy night. The 87th minute strike gave Sheffs no chance to make a comeback and thus had to crash out at the second-last hurdle.
Spurs have set up replay of 2008 finals with London rivals Chelsea which will be played on 1st March 2015.
