Zico for FIFA Prez!
"It's sad for our sport to see what is happening in football today - the corruption... and the hard work of many other good people wasted - and I see it as my duty to use my experience and knowledge to try and stand for the presidency." Zico said.
"I would like to confirm the decision to be a candidate," said Zico. "I feel I am capable. For sure, certain rules need to change. That need to have five federations behind you, I think that is where the corruption starts"
Michael Platini, UEFA president is expected to make a formal bid, declaring his candidacy. Former Tottenham and Newcastle forward David Ginola has already revealed he will enter the race once more. Ginola pulled out of the elections in May which Swiss international Sepp Blatter won, before stepping down as the president, less than a week after being re-elected.
"I was asked if I had talked with Figo about his being a candidate for FIFA. I said I had and that set me thinking," he said.
Luis Figo briefly expressed his own desire to stand for the post before pulling out last month. Zico stated that he had a talk with the Portuguese star and decided to stand for elections and also stated that it was the result of his talks with Figo which convinced him to make a formal Bid.
Having been beaten by Blatter the first time, Jordanian Prince Ali bin al-Hussein is expected to stand again.
