1) How Did They Qualify?
Poland secured their place in the finals with 6 wins and 1 Loss and 3 Draws! They Lost their only match to Germany but despite that, the Polish National Teams managed to finish just 1 point below Germany, who lost two more matches than Poland! They managed to score 33 goals, the highest in the group while conceding 10, 4 of which came against Scotland in two fixtures which ended as 2 – 2 draw each.
2) Closest To Glory
Poland qualified for the Finals round twice but were unable to get past the group stages on both occasions. The closest they came to getting past the group stages was the 2012 Euros. Their form deteriorated when a determined German side defeated them 3 – 1 in a match where even Robert Lewandowski’s heroics couldn’t save them. They then defeated Gibraltar 8 – 1 but drew against Scotland 2 – 2 for the second time. Poland then defeated Republic of Ireland 2 – 1 thus ending their campaign on a high!
4) Key Players To Look Out For:
Lukasz Piszczek(def), Jakub Blaszczykowski(mid) and Robert Lewandowski(fwd) will be the players to watch out for. Lewandowski finished as the top scorer in the Qualifiers with 13 goals in 10 matches and his abilities as a striker will be key for Poland’s chances to progress to the next round
