Did you know that Poland scored 33 goals in the qualifiers? or that they managed to defeat Germany during the qualifying matches, a feat they achieved after a gap of 29 years! “Biale Orly – The White Eagles as the side’s affectionately known by their fans have qualified for the 2016 edition of Euro’s as Runners up of Group D, comfortably securing their place with 21 points or 3 points above 3rd place Republic Of Ireland! 1) How Did They Qualify?

Poland secured their place in the finals with 6 wins and 1 Loss and 3 Draws! They Lost their only match to Germany but despite that, the Polish National Teams managed to finish just 1 point below Germany, who lost two more matches than Poland! They managed to score 33 goals, the highest in the group while conceding 10, 4 of which came against Scotland in two fixtures which ended as 2 – 2 draw each.

2) Closest To Glory

Poland qualified for the Finals round twice but were unable to get past the group stages on both occasions. The closest they came to getting past the group stages was the 2012 Euros. The side drew their beginning two matches but lost a crucial key match to Czech Republic 1 – 0 thus losing out on a place in the finals. Both Greece and Czech Republic who qualified from that group were knocked out via in the next round itself.

3) Road To Qualifiers

Poland began their campaign with a covinving 7 – 0 win over Gibraltar and continued that momentum when they managed to defeat Germany for the first time in 29 years. In their next 4 matches, they drew 2 and won two matches. Their form deteriorated when a determined German side defeated them 3 – 1 in a match where even Robert Lewandowski’s heroics couldn’t save them. They then defeated Gibraltar 8 – 1 but drew against Scotland 2 – 2 for the second time. Poland then defeated Republic of Ireland 2 – 1 thus ending their campaign on a high!

4) Key Players To Look Out For:

Lukasz Piszczek(def), Jakub Blaszczykowski(mid) and Robert Lewandowski(fwd) will be the players to watch out for. Lewandowski finished as the top scorer in the Qualifiers with 13 goals in 10 matches and his abilities as a striker will be key for Poland’s chances to progress to the next round

Good. Given their current form Germany and Ukraine will provide them with good competition however, the fixture against Northern Ireland should guarantee them 3 points! Their Fixture against Germany will be a difficult and a tricky one!
