Mark Sampson was appointed as the England’s Women’s Team in the last month of 2013. It took a little over a year for the side to win their first trophy under his tutelage. The Lionesses won The Cyprus Cup in March of 2015. Later that year, England reached the semi finals of the Women’s World Cup. It was the first time the Lionesses made it past the group stage with a win. They lost the semi finals to Japan but safely secured the third place beating Germany for the first time in 21 games.

Earlier in March, The Lionesses played Germany, France and USA in the SheBelieves Cup. All the other participants were ranked higher than England and Mark Sampson’s girls suffered two defeats and a draw. However, as per the latest FIFA rankings, the European side climbed one spot to the 4th above Australia. This is a massive achievement for Mark Sampson as it shows the long way the side has come since his appointment in 2013.
