The Rise and Fall of Nicklas Bendtner

From a wonderkid to no one - the life of footballer Nicklas Bendtner.

The guy who is often called as the Lord Bendtner in the troll world, we look at how it all went wrong for Nicklas.

Now a Wolfsburg player, Nicklas Bendtner the former Arsenal man who moved this year, has had a decent start to his Bundesliga career. After spending what seems like an age in the footballing wilderness, it looks like Nicklas Bendtner has found his right move after all. Having appeared eight times in two months and having scored a single goal from it, it might not be a great stat but it is one which he needs, away from the media lime light.

But looking back at what went wrong in these last years, was he mismanaged by Arsenal? or is he his own villain?

Bendtner was shipped out on a season-long loan to Sunderland in August 2011, but found the back of the net on just eight occasions. He then spent a year at the mighty Juventus, but his return was just as pitiful.

He started only three times and failed to score. Hardly surprising then a move to Crystal Palace fell through on transfer deadline day.

Yet Arsene Wenger did insist that Bendtner, still only 25, ‘can be an unstoppable striker’.

His talents unquestionable, 26 goals from 64 appearances for his country is enough proof that he has goals in him.

Yet, sadly better know for his off the field antics; Nicklas Bendtner was seen leaving a London nightclub with his jeans around his ankles just hours after Arsenal were denied a place in the 2009 Champions League final by Manchester United.

Later that year he stripped down to his underwear (again) after a high-speed crash in which he was fortunate to escape with his life. His £160,000 Aston Martin wasn’t so fortunate.

‘I needed to check myself,’ Bendnter told Sportsmail upon explaining the need to strip at the side of the A1 motorway. ‘My body is my livelihood and I was desperate to find out if I was OK. So I took off all my clothes, even my pants, picked up a wing mirror that had come off the car and checked myself over, front and back.'

In 2011, he split with his Danish royal fiancée Caroline Luel-Brockdorff, just seven weeks after she gave birth to their son. During his loan spell at Sunderland he was arrested for allegedly going on a £4,000 car-wrecking spree with Lee Cattermole. The charges were later dropped.

Then came the incident which Bendtner described as the ‘worst day of my life’. Earlier this year, the Arsenal striker, on-loan at Juventus, was banned from driving for three years and fined £100,000 for being over the legal drink-drive limit after he was spotted by police in Copenhagen driving against the traffic.

With such series of incidents, we think Bendtner is the reason for his own downfall.
